Intro to Pistol:
What to ExpectThis is our newest class designed specifically for individuals with very little or no prior experience with firearms. Taught in a small-group setting to ensure personalized attention, this course provides a clear, step-by-step introduction to safe and responsible firearm handling. Students will learn and practice the fundamental safety rules, including safe storage, safe loading and unloading procedures, muzzle discipline, trigger control, and how to recognize and respond to potential hazards.
The curriculum covers the basic mechanical function of common handgun types, helping new shooters understand parts of the firearm, how actions operate, and the differences between single-action, double-action, and semi-automatic systems in straightforward, easy-to-understand language. Classroom instruction is paired with practical demonstrations so students can see each concept applied before practicing it themselves.
Hands-on training takes place under the close supervision of experienced, certified instructors. Controlled live-fire exercises at the range focus on proper stance, grip, sight alignment, breath control, and trigger squeeze. Emphasis is placed on building confidence, reducing anxiety, and developing good habits from the start. Instructors provide individual feedback, corrective coaching, and incremental skill-building drills designed for beginners.
By the end of the course, participants will have a foundational understanding of firearm safety, basic operation, and competent live-fire experience in a low-pressure environment. The course also covers legal considerations relevant to New York State pistol permit applicants and responsible ownership basics such as maintenance and safe storage options. This class is ideal for those considering further training, pursuing a pistol permit, or simply seeking a safe, structured introduction to shooting.
